The young men was involved in numerous military maneuvers, including Operation Mead River, Operation Taylor Common, Operation Oklahoma Hills, the Battle in Death Valley, the landing on top of Hill 953, and the Battle of Hill 105. As the leader of 3rd Squad and also acting leader of 1st Platoon on Hill 953, Jersey fought the enemy while also struggling to keep the men under his command alive.
